Graphic Designer and Artworker

Hours: Part time, 22.5 hours (3 days p/w)

Contract: 8 month Fixed Term Contract

Salary: £20,000-£22,000k, pro rata, per annum, dependent on experience

Based in the heart of Bristol, We The Curious is a space to explore, play, ask questions and test things out. It is a well-established educational charity, a participative resource for Bristol and the South West and a movement supporting an inclusive and accessible scientific community.

This is an exciting time to join our team as We The Curious is undergoing a period of transformation and constant development.

We are looking for an in-house Graphic Designer to join our small creative team. The successful candidate will work under the direction of our Senior Designer across a broad and varied range of projects following brand guidelines and implementing We The Curious’ visual identity across a wide range of briefs. You will be supporting our Graphic Design team on daily tasks and art working our Marketing material based on existing designs. You will communicate with suppliers and have a good understanding of print production. It is key that you are design and aesthetics oriented. Curious and creative is a bonus.

The position will suit a designer with a genuine passion for a creative culture, looking to build their experience within the in-house studio in a diverse, innovate cultural organisation.

 

Job Description

=         To manage printed collateral stock levels and review current print suppliers

=         Updating signage on site

=         Artworking layouts for exhibition interpretation

=         Updating and adjusting current marketing material based on existing formats and preparing them for print production

=         Graphic design support for our digital platforms and channels

=         Small scale design jobs of brochures, flyers and prepare for print production

=         Conducting visual research

=         Proactively optimising systems and work processes

=         Image library database management

=         Contributing to creative ideas and wider led projects that meet brand values and objectives

=         Liaising with external contacts regarding production of designed material when needed

=         General design-related administration duties

 

 

Who you are

  • You’ll have a portfolio that demonstrates a good understanding of image-making, design layout and typography
  • You’ll possess a relevant design degree plus a minimum of 1+ years’ experience, or equivalent 5 years work experience in a similar field
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite software, most notably InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, prioritise and manage personal workflow
  • Ability to work within our existing brand guidelines, ensuring it is communicated in a consistent and recognisable way
  • Ability to take creative direction and produce final print and web ready artwork
  • An understanding and experience of digital and print processes
  • Proactive and independent, yet comfortable collaborating with others and working as part of a team
  • Ability to research, learn and explore different design solutions
  • Driven, self-motivated and able to work within a busy working environment
  • Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills with a problem-solving mentality.

=         A quick learner who is able to develop skills ‘on the job’ in a busy working environment and feel comfortable asking questions

=         A positive approach that focuses on completing tasks. Flexible at all times

=         A genuine interest in art and design. Familiar with variety of design styles and visual approaches.
