Trustee – Open call

We the Curious is looking for forward-thinking individuals to join our board at a time of exciting and challenging cultural change as an organisation.

Board members will have the opportunity to contribute to the future of this educational charity and the strategic delivery of our Manifesto for a Culture of Curiosity. We need individuals who can bring energy and a positively questioning mind to help us realise the vision of We The Curious. You will be energised by our vision of repositioning science as part of an inclusive, multi-disciplinary culture.

We are particularly looking for individuals who can bring experience and interest to represent the evolution of our 5 manifesto pledges. You will connect with any of:

  • Open up Science – becoming a space for real science in our city so people can participate and have a voice in contemporary research.
  • Sustainable Futures - being an exemplar sustainable organisation which experiments with the solutions of tomorrow
  • Cultivating Curiosity - empowering everyone to ask questions and explore ideas together
  • Building Resilience  for our own future as a charity and venue and also to play our part in building the resilience of our communities and city
  • Diverse Participation - being a place of inclusion, where everyone feels represented and welcome to visit, volunteer or work

For more information please read our Manifesto online.

We are committed to making real positive change, striving to improve the diversity of our staff and governance and becoming a more relevant and inclusive place for our audiences, participants and collaborators. We particularly welcome applications from women, people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds and people with a disability. Working with Rising Arts, we are currently recruiting for a young person aged 18-21 to join the board.

NCVO has audited the current board’s skills and expertise, and identified the following needs to develop the proficiency of our board. We are looking for applicants with skills and experience in the following:

=         Fundraising

=         Inclusion, equality and diversity

=         Commercial Operations

=         Environmental Science and Sustainability

=         Legal and HR

=         Property and Estates Management

=         Audience Engagement and Development

We are especially excited to hear from anyone who also has experience working in citizen science, multi-disciplinary art/science projects, community participation and social equity in Bristol, sustainable technologies, and programming of public facing venues. We want change makers, positive agitators, community leaders, researchers committed to shifting the landscape of science research and engagement and artists interested in a connected cultural landscape.

About us

We The Curious is an educational charity dedicated to building a culture of curiosity. We believe that by removing the boundaries between science, art, people and ideas we can play our part in positive social change and building better futures together. We want to reposition science as part of culture and enable everyone to be able to ask questions and be heard.

After 17 years of “making science accessible to all”, in 2017 At-Bristol Science Centre relaunched as We The Curious with a new Manifesto, vision and ambitious plans to redevelop the ground floor of the venue. With fundraising underway and work already started on the project, 2020 will see the launch of the UK’s first permanent exhibition experience driven by the curious questions of its city.
